Please note that this is the day before the ICFA workshop on Accelerators for a Higgs Factory: Linear vs. Circular (HF2012). The mini-workshop will discuss the concept of a Muon Collider operating at the Higgs resonance, and discuss the challenges associated with this approach. A Muon Collider can provide s-channel production of the Higgs and can measure the Higgs mass and width to high accuracy, particularly if the muon polarization is used to calibrate the collision energy. The muon collider approach has unique challenges in beam intensity, muon collection, cooling and acceleration and in detector design and background management. Exploration of these challenges will be initiated in preparation for further development in the 2-day UCLA Higgs Factory Collider Workshop, which will be held in early 2013. The output of this workshop will also contribute to presentations and discussions on the muon-muon Higgs Collider option at CSS2013. A workshop website will soon be available for more information and to register. We hope to see you in November! Also, is it possible to communicate this to the MAP group? - Sam Zeller Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory WH12NW gzeller at fnal.gov office phone: (630) 840-6879 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear All, As many of you may know, ICFA has decided to set up a neutrino panel with the following mandate: "To promote international cooperation in the development of the accelerator-based neutrino-oscillation program and to promote international collaboration in the development a neutrino factory as a future intense source of neutrinos for particle physics experiments." It is proposed that the panel be composed of 15 members; five each for Asia, the Americas and Europe. In addition to the geographical balance, the panel should have a balance of expertise ranging from theory and phenomenology, neutrino experiment and accelerators. After discussion in the neutrino session at the recent Community Planning Meeting at FNAL (Oct 11-13), it was decided to use the mailing list set up to coordinate the neutrino community contributions to the Community Summer Study to ask for nominations for U.S. members of the panel. We ask that you please send your nominations to the Intensity Frontier neutrino working group conveners: * Andre de Gouvea * Kevin Pitts * Kate Scholberg * Sam Zeller by November 9, 2012 and we will communicate these to ICFA. Our apologies if you receive this email more than once. Please feel feel to forward this to anyone whom you think would like to send in a nomination. Also, if you would like to join the IF neutrino mailing list and stay in touch on plans leading up to the Community Summer Study in Minnesota, please let us know. Sincerely, - Andre, Kevin, Kate, and Sam From a.kurup at imperial.ac.uk Tue Oct 30 06:12:57 2012 From: a.kurup at imperial.ac.uk (Ajit Kurup) Date: Tue, 30 Oct 2012 10:12:57 +0000 Subject: [MAP] Accelerator positions at University of Huelva Message-ID: <508FA829.80309@imperial.ac.uk> Dear All, Attached is an advert for accelerator engineer/physicist positions at the University of Huelva, Spain.
